Pike Place Market: Top 5

Pikes Place Market is like Disneyland for foodies. I could easily spend an entire day there, and it's typically our one stop in Seattle on our way to Whistler. Though you should explore and try a lot more than this, here are the 5 things my family makes a B line for every time we go, buy obscene amounts of, then consume in like, a day.

Mick's Peppourri
This little stand is lined with small jars of jelly in every flavor from ginger to cabernet. Whether you like things spicy or sweet, they're hard to resist. The workers constantly hold out samples on little sticks for you to try, so go ahead and try them all. Our favorite way to enjoy it? On a cracker with cream cheese and some fresh smoked salmon.

Daily Dozen Doughnuts
These things are to die for. They're hot, fresh and so little that it's way too easy to eat way too many. Oops. You can get plain, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or chocolate frosted with sprinkles (obviously the best). Buy more than you think you'll need. Trust me

Beecher's Handmade Cheese
Oh. My. God. There was a time in my life when I thought I was lactose intolerant. Turns out I'm not, but even if I was, it wouldn't stop me from going to this place. It's the cutest little shop across the street from the market where you can watch them make cheese, try some samples, then buy some of your own. Then buy a grilled cheese. And a mac & cheese. And every variation of each. A stomach ache would be a small sacrifice. Their flagship cheese? There aren't words
Turns out you can buy it online here!

Sweet Dried Strawberries
The guy who sold these to us called them "crackberries". He was right. They're incredibly delicious and one of those foods that is impossible to stop eating. He actually said people come and buy ten 2 and 1/4 pound bags of these thing to stock up for a year and you know what? I don't blame them. They're sweet, chewy and addicting. We've tried  buying these at other places, but they're never as fresh. I don't know the name of the stand, but it's by Mick's! You can't miss 'em and you definitely don't want to leave without 'em.

Smoked Salmon
It goes without saying that when you're in Seattle, you should eat salmon with like, every meal. It's so fresh and can't be beat. There's no "best" stand to get smoked salmon, just walk around, try some samples, and make your decision. I guarantee they're all amazing.
We saved this for when we arrived in Whistler and forgot to take a picture, but you all know what salmon looks like, right?!

Big thanks to my sister Courtney for taking and sharing these pictures!

  1. These pictures are awesome...teach me your ways! I need a dozen cinnamon sugar donuts now. Oh and I am also willing to ignore my lactose intolerance for that mac & cheese - holy cow.
